DESCRIPTION OF THE ESTATE
Pier Paolo and Stefano have been cultivating grapevines since 1992 on their own land situated in the hilly towns of Marano Valpolicella, San Pietro in Cariano and Negrar.
Ignoring trends, every wine is an expression of harmony, a synthesis of the native vines, the territory from which it originates and the work of the vine-dresser who respects tradition and environmental values. From the beginning they chose to operate with respect for the environment, following integrated guidelines to use minimum quantities of antiparasitic products. In 2012 they stopped using chemical insecticides and herbicides.
The Antolini vineyards cover 9 hectares. The soil is prevalently clayey, which holds water and slowly releases it to the roots, so no irrigation system is required. Another favourable climatic factor is the high temperature range between day and night, important for obtaining fragrant wines with a complex bouquet.
The vineyards are five: “Moròpio”, “Prognol” and “Persegà” in Marano di Valpolicella, “Semonte” in San Pietro in Cariano, and “Ca’ Coato” in Negrar.
“Moròpio” lies at 350 meters above sea level and extends for 2.2 hectares, exposed to the south-east; the vines were planted in the 1970s.
“Persegà” is exposed to the west and destined to the production of Recioto.
“Prognol” is the vineyard near Antolini’s winery.
“Semonte” lies at 150 meters above sea level and extends for 1.5 hectares.
“Ca’ Coato”, purchased in 2000 in Negrar, was restored with the reconstruction of old dry stone walls and about 2 hectares were replanted with typical Valpolicella varieties using the “guyot” method, exposed to the south-west at 170–220 meters above sea level.
MAKING THE MOST OF THE LAND TO PRODUCE BETTER WINE
Wine is an expression of culture, senses, history and poetry of the land. Since 1992, this has been the philosophy of brothers Pier Paolo and Stefano.
Pesticides and herbicides are avoided, beginning with the vine itself. Antolini wines observe, identify and enhance the natural qualities of the land, reflecting the nature and characteristics of Valpolicella Classica, a land historically suited to viticulture.
The vineyards are positioned at 150–350 meters above sea level in Marano, San Pietro and Negrar, on clayey soils that allow sufficient moisture without irrigation. Walking through the vineyards you breathe the history, culture and traditions of the Valpolicella countryside, a land that has produced wine since Roman times.
Knowledge and respect for the land are essential to express it in wine. Since 1992, brothers Pier Paolo and Stefano have followed this philosophy, avoiding chemical pesticides and herbicides and cultivating vines on the hills at 150–350 meters above sea level, on clayey soils without artificial irrigation, following the integrated pest management guidelines.
The wines, aged in barrels of different woods, reflect the nature and identity of Valpolicella Classica, an area historically renowned for viticulture.
