Azienda Agraria Scacciadiavoli

Azienda Agraria Scacciadiavoli is one of the historic wineries of Umbria, founded in 1884 by Prince Ugo Boncompagni Ludovisi, who established a French-inspired, technologically advanced winery in the Montefalco area that soon became a benchmark for quality and innovation. Since 1954 the estate has been owned by the Pambuffetti family, now in its fourth generation, who continue to lead the company with a strong focus on heritage, innovation, and the enhancement of native grape varieties.

The estate covers about 130 hectares across the municipalities of Montefalco, Gualdo Cattaneo and Giano dell’Umbria, with 40 hectares under vine, located between 350 and 450 meters above sea level. Clay and sandy soils, diverse exposures, and favorable microclimates support high-quality viticulture centered on Sagrantino — the flagship grape of the area — alongside Sangiovese, Grechetto, and Trebbiano Spoletino. The winery applies precision viticulture practices to optimize resources, reduce environmental impact, and improve grape quality, and has been in organic transition since 2023.

The historic gravity-flow winery, carefully restored, preserves its original 19th-century structure while integrating modern winemaking technology. Production includes Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG (dry and passito), Montefalco Rosso DOC, a range of DOC and IGT white and red wines, and Traditional Method sparkling wines made from indigenous grapes — including Sagrantino and Trebbiano Spoletino — a pioneering project started in 2005. The portfolio is completed by a Sagrantino grappa.

Annual production is 270,000 bottles, distributed in Italy and international markets. Since 2023, the company has expanded its sparkling wine expertise into France through the Champagne brand Marie Clugny, produced in collaboration with partners in the Côte des Blancs and Vallée de la Marne.
