Company Description

THE COMPANY: TECHNICAL DATA

The AZIENDA AGRICOLA CASCINA PUGNANE (PUGNANE FARM), owned by the GHISOLFI brothers, is situated on a hill at the intersection among the villages of Barolo, Monforte and Castiglione Falletto, right in the middle of the Barolo area.

The name of the hill is PUGNANE, which is a CRU area, mentioned as such in the specific toponymic maps, including the most famous one, made by Mr Ratti from the Annunziata Abbey.

It consists of 6 hectares of land, of which about 4.5 are devoted to the production of Nebbiolo wine for Barolo, and DOC Dolcetto; about 1 hectare is devoted to growing Piedmont hazelnut, and the remaining 0.5 to the other aspects of the farm.

The yearly production capability is over 350 quintals of grapes. The farm concentrates practically on only one production: Barolo, very small amounts of Dolcetto, and hazelnuts.

However the production is strictly checked in such a way that the bottled wine amount is limited, but its quality on the contrary is the highest. Therefore at the moment we produce and market only 7,500 bottles of DOCG Barolo a year, and further 1,000-2,000 bottles of Dolcetto.

All the activities of planting, processing, operational management are carried out according to European Act no. 2078, regulating today’s best environmental conditions for production.

The further guarantee of our wine with its DOCG trademark is the natural outcome of such activities.

THE COMPANY HISTORY

The AZIENDA AGRICOLA CASCINA PUGNANE owned by the GHISOLFI brothers is the natural continuation of the history of a family who has been operating in the field of winemaking for some centuries.

Historical documents report that the GHISOLFI family has been operating in the Barolo area, specifically in Monforte and Barolo, since about 1600.

Throughout these centuries the Ghisolfis have owned and directly cultivated the vines, developing the competence in producing top quality wine, always keeping in touch with the most updated and environment-friendly technologies.

The Pugnane hill was purchased just before the Second World War, and all the vines now covering the whole hill have been planted directly by the family.

The Pugnane hill has been at the centre of attention since Roman times for its favourable geographical and environmental position.
