Company Description

Making wine in the Euganean Hills is a craft that we have been proudly handing down for four generations — our way of cherishing the farm and our family history.

In the heart of the Venetian plain, a stone’s throw from Padua, Vicenza, Verona and Rovigo, stands the Euganean Hills Regional Park — an area of 101 volcanic hills enclosed in 18,000 hectares, from the top of which it is possible to admire the beauty of nearby Venice. It is a unique territory in terms of geology and biodiversity, marked by a Mediterranean climate shaped by winds from different directions. Vineyards and olive groves are interspersed with cherry trees, chestnut trees, forests and natural meadows.

Our family cultivates vines in the town of Rovolon, on the slopes of Monte della Madonna, the northernmost hill in the Euganean district. Management and cultivation follow a fundamental principle: the utmost respect for the soil, nature and the surrounding environment.

Family strength has always been a core value for the Bonato family. Diego, now in charge of operations and strategic decisions, represents the fourth generation of winemakers. After graduating in Viticulture and Enology and gaining international experience in Australia, France, New Zealand and Tuscany, he was awarded the Gambelli Prize in 2017 as the best Italian winemaker under 35 able to interpret his region. He took over the family business in 2018.

We produce wine according to nature, with the aim of bringing out and enhancing the characteristics of the soils and the uniqueness of our region.

We cultivate about six hectares under vine with northern exposure and a slight western slope. Soils originate from the breakdown of acid volcanites. Viticulture follows organic standards: natural fertilization with green manure plants, use of copper and sulfur only when necessary, antagonistic insects, herbal extracts, essential oils and propolis to protect the vines. Biodiversity is guaranteed by the trees surrounding the vineyards.

We believe in preserving old varieties and grow rare native grapes such as Marzemina Nera Bastarda, Turchetta and Corbina. We preserve an ultra-secular Pinella vineyard planted in the early 1900s, from which we produce a limited classic method sparkling wine. We also cultivate Manzoni Bianco and historic international varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Carménère, which have found an ideal microclimate here. Harvesting is exclusively by hand.

Selected grapes ferment spontaneously thanks to native yeasts on the skins. Winemaking is artisanal and carried out manually. Wines mature in wood, cement or steel depending on the vintage and objective. Constant tastings determine the best bottling time. We seek finesse and elegance: time enhances each wine’s character, with freshness from vineyard exposure and structure from the generosity of the soil. Savouriness and minerality define a harmonious, agile sip with a distinct Mediterranean stamp.
