Company Description
Back in 1800, Dr Giovanni Perini, then mayor of Borca di Cadore near Cortina, together with his brothers Aristide and Giuliano, purchased several dozen hectares of land in the hills of Conegliano, Valdobbiadene and the Treviso plain, as well as the splendid 18th-century Venetian villa.
Later, Ernesto, Giovanni Perini’s son, inherited the land in the hills of Conegliano Valdobbiadene and devoted himself primarily to silk production.
At the same time, the family began producing (also for domestic use) and distributing wine, which was originally stored in large oak barrels in the warehouse of the current barchessa.
Between the 1960s and 1970s, Ernesto Perini, with the help of his son Giovanni and his wife Bernadette Dorigo, proceeded to uproot and replace the old vineyards with new ones (mostly Glera), giving rise to the Giovanni Perini Agricultural Company.
In the early 1970s, Prosecco was produced using the “Sur lie” method, which involved fermentation in the bottle. The wine’s great success made Giovanni and his wife Bernadette realise the enormous potential of the Prosecco grape variety, which enhances tradition and promotes the territory.
A few years later, they were among the first in the area to purchase modern technology of the ‘Charmat’ method, including a pressing plant, autoclaves for carbonic fermentation and a bottling plant.
An important contribution to the growth of the company came with the arrival of their children Paola and Alberto. Subsequently, market developments and growing demand led the company to expand the distribution of Prosecco DOCG Conegliano Valdobbiadene beyond Italy to numerous foreign markets.
Recently, the Perini family decided to renew the entire production chain with the purchase of a new, technologically advanced pressing and bottling plant, allowing the already excellent production to reach new levels of excellence, placing San Giovanni among the most prestigious companies in Conegliano Valdobbiadene.
