Company Description

In the heart of the countryside of Agrigento lie lands with an ancient winemaking tradition, where endless rows of vineyards shape the landscape. These are the Lands of Nero d’Avola, best expressed in the wines of CVA Canicattì.

Founded in 1969, CVA Canicattì brings together over 300 growers united by their deep connection to the territory. For more than 50 years, the cooperative has redefined viticultural quality through continuous investments in technology and management, while remaining strongly committed to enhancing the agricultural and historical heritage of one of Sicily’s most suited wine-growing areas. Today, its members cultivate more than 1,000 hectares of vineyards across over 60 production zones, each characterized by distinct pedoclimatic conditions.

The gently rolling hills, reaching up to 600 meters above sea level, are sun-drenched and shaped by limited rainfall and mineral-rich soils (sulphur, potassium, calcium), creating an ideal environment for high-quality viticulture. Each vineyard and vine is carefully monitored, especially before harvest, to determine the optimal picking time. Low yields and a broad ampelographic base allow the production of wines that authentically express the soul of this ancient yet dynamic part of Sicily. Native varieties include Catarratto, Inzolia, Grillo, Nero d’Avola, Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio, alongside international grapes such as Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot.

In the winery, every production phase reflects a strategy focused on quality and regional identity. Grapes are harvested and vinified separately according to a precise calendar. Modern technologies — including pneumatic presses, temperature-controlled cement vats, and small-capacity stainless steel fermenters — ensure careful processing of selected micro-batches. Bottling procedures guarantee strict quality control, while barriques from selected cooperages are used for aging top wines.

Two iconic labels embody the bond with the territory. Diodoros, produced in collaboration with the Valley of the Temples (a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997), comes from the only vineyard located within the protected archaeological area. 1934 pays tribute to Luigi Pirandello, born in Agrigento and awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1934.

CVA Canicattì’s production philosophy reflects its mission to enhance the social, cultural, and environmental values of its territory through authentic, high-quality Sicilian wines.
