Our Story
Carpineta Fontalpino is a family-owned winery deeply rooted in the Cresti family’s heritage.
Although traces of winemaking in this area date back to the 19th century, it was in 1967 that Italo Cresti, father of Gioia and Filippo, turned his lifelong passion into a vocation — founding a farm run with love, devotion, and respect for the land.
The estate lies in the heart of Tuscany, just outside the beautiful city of Siena.
A few steps from our vineyards rises the historic Montaperti Hill, within the municipality of Castelnuovo Berardenga, the southernmost outpost of the Chianti Classico appellation.
Our vineyards extend over 30 hectares (74 acres), planted mainly with Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot, alongside small parcels of Alicante and Gamay.
Thanks to our strategic location at the crossroads of several historic wine zones, we produce Chianti Classico DOCG, Chianti Colli Senesi DOCG, and Supertuscan IGT Toscana wines.
Our Land
The name Carpineta Fontalpino reflects the ancient soul of our territory.
Carpineta refers to the hornbeam trees once abundant here (recognizable by their silvery leaves), while Fontalpino recalls an ancient spring once framed by pine trees still present on our land.
The estate lies at the foot of Montaperti Hill, site of the legendary Battle of Montaperti (1260) between Siena and Florence — a moment immortalized by Dante Alighieri in The Divine Comedy:
“The slaughter and great havoc that colored Arbia’s flood with crimson stain.”
This land, steeped in history, legend, and passion, continues to inspire powerful emotions in all who visit.
We consider it a privilege to live and work here, and we are committed to preserving its landscape and traditions for generations to come.
About Us
We are brother and sister, Filippo and Gioia Cresti, joined by Sara, the new generation of the family, and supported by a loyal and dedicated team.
We carry forward the company our parents founded through hard work and faith in the land — aware that nature rewards only those who dedicate themselves fully to it.
Not by chance, our most iconic wine bears the Latin name “Do Ut Des” – “I give so that you will give” – a prayer and a promise to our land.
Gioia is the winemaker: she oversees every step of production, from harvest to aging, and her signature style can be felt in every bottle.
Filippo manages sales, marketing, and communications, ensuring that Carpineta Fontalpino’s wines are represented worldwide with passion and integrity.
Sara embodies the future: she is studying oenology while serving as brand ambassador, contributing to hospitality and wine experiences at the estate.
The Vineyards
The 30 hectares (74 acres) of vineyards are planted primarily to Sangiovese, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon, with select parcels of Petit Verdot and Alicante.
Thanks to our location at the southern border of the Chianti Classico zone, we are able to produce wines under Chianti Classico DOCG, Chianti Colli Senesi DOCG, and IGT Toscana denominations.
The soils vary greatly from one vineyard to another — ranging from sandy to lime-rich or clay-based, all supported by a stony substratum — and lie between 220 and 380 meters above sea level.
Planting density varies from 2,600 to 6,600 vines per hectare, trained in spurred cordon and Guyot systems.
These natural and agronomic conditions ensure exceptional fruit quality, allowing us to select grapes carefully at harvest before vinification begins.
Every bottle is the result of meticulous selection and an unwavering pursuit of excellence.
