Company Description
La Maranzana Società Cooperativa Agricola is a historic winery cooperative located in the heart of Monferrato, Piedmont, within the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Vineyard Landscapes of Langhe-Roero and Monferrato.” Founded at the end of the 1950s by a group of enterprising vine growers, the cooperative today brings together 169 members cultivating approximately 500 hectares of vineyards.
Situated between the provinces of Asti and Alessandria, the vineyards extend across rolling hills at altitudes ranging from 200 to 500 meters above sea level. The calcareous-clay soils, originating from ancient marine deposits, provide ideal conditions for high-quality viticulture, ensuring excellent drainage and balanced mineral composition.
Guided by the Management Board and President Barbara Pastorino, La Maranzana is committed to producing wines that respect varietal identity, designation of origin and environmental sustainability. Since the late 1980s, integrated pest management and environmentally responsible cultivation techniques have been adopted, with ongoing projects focused on organic grape production.
Harvesting is carried out by hand at optimal ripeness. Under the expertise of winemaker Daniela Pesce, each grape variety is vinified with dedicated attention to preserve its aromas and distinctive characteristics. The winery is equipped with modern vinification and bottling systems, including temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks, pneumatic presses, autoclaves for sparkling wine production, and traditional barrels and concrete tanks for refinement.
La Maranzana produces a wide range of red, white, rosé, sparkling and dessert wines, including Barbera d’Asti, Nizza, Moscato d’Asti, Brachetto d’Acqui and Metodo Classico sparkling wines, as well as local specialties such as Vermouth di Torino and Grappa.
The winery also features a modern shop and tasting room, where guided tastings and weekly wine events are organized. Visitors are welcomed in multiple languages, including English, French and German, reinforcing the cooperative’s international outlook.
