A STORY OF WINE AND PASSION
The “Le Poie” farm represents a fascinating story of passion and friendship, founded in 2020 by Carmelo and Giuseppe, two friends with a common dream: to produce wine in a land that boasts a winemaking tradition consolidated over time. Located in Umbria, in the municipality of Orvieto and precisely in San Quirico, the company is located on a plateau of volcanic origin 500 meters above sea level, an ideal position that helps give the wines a unique and distinctive character.
The company extends over about 25 hectares, carefully managed by Giuseppe’s family, his wife Maria Domenica and their two sons, Gabriele and Francesco, and Alfredo Pinto as Sales Manager. These young farmers are driven by a great passion for their work, and their commitment is reflected in the quality of the products they offer.
The vineyards of “Le Poie” are characterized by a rich variety of grapes. White grapes include Vermentino ; Pinot Bianco, Riesling, Chardonnay, Grechetto and Trebbiano, while red varieties include Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Each variety is grown with particular attention, respecting the health of the plants and the surrounding territory.
The company’s philosophy focuses on the meticulous care of the vineyards, with the belief that the quality of the wine begins in the vineyard. Each phase of the winemaking process is managed with passion and dedication, to ensure that the final result reflects.
A UNIQUE TERRITORY IN THE HEART OF ITALY
The plateau extends to an elevation of about 500 meters above sea level. This privileged position gives the territory not only a spectacular panoramic view, but also exceptional conditions for viticulture. The hills are characterized by well-ventilated and drained soil, essential to ensure healthy growth of the vines and minimize the risk of plant diseases.
The soil has a volcanic origin, rich in minerals, which contributes to the quality and complexity of the grapes. This special composition of the soil influences the organoleptic characteristics of the wine, giving local products a refined distinctiveness.
The plateau enjoys a peculiar climate characterized by significant temperature variations between day and night. The days can be hot and sunny, while night temperatures drop, creating an ideal environment for the ripening of the grapes. These oscillations favor the preservation of acidity, a key element for the balance and longevity of the wine.
The volcanic nature of the soil provides an abundance of nutrients that favor the growth of the vines. This type of soil contributes to the distinctive character of the wines produced, making each label representative of its geological origin.
CAREFUL AND SUSTAINABLE METHODS
Wine production in volcanic areas offers an interesting opportunity to implement sustainable practices, thanks to the unique characteristics of volcanic soils and the potential of local grape varieties. This context favors not only biodiversity, but also a holistic approach to viticulture, which pays attention to ecological balance and soil health.
SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES IN OUR WINE PRODUCTION
Integrated Approach to the Use of Fertilizers: the use of chemical fertilizers occurs only when necessary and in a targeted manner, reducing the environmental impact. This involves continuous monitoring of the nutritional status of the vines. The combination of chemical and natural fertilizers allows to optimize the yield of the grapes without compromising sustainability.
Soil Management: techniques such as mulching and minimum tillage of the soil help to preserve humidity and prevent erosion. Promote a healthy microbial community through practices that encourage biodiversity in the soil, contributing to greater resilience of vines.
