Company Description

It was 1924 when Le Vigne di Zamò winery’s adventure began with the Manzano osteria run by grandfather Luigi, who decided to start producing wine for his guests, following an incredible increase in customers. Since the acquisition of the first 5 hectares, by his son Tullio, and the achievement of the first Tre Bicchieri Gambero Rosso with the 1988 Ronco dei Roseti, a remarkable amount of progress has been made. His grandsons Pierluigi and Silvano, with his wife Brigitte, together with Oscar Farinetti, continue in Tullio’s footsteps, interpreting the tradition and personality of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, combining great quality with respect for the land and attention to indigenous grape varieties.

Today, Vigne di Zamò cultivates 65 hectares of vineyards on three different terroirs: Rosazzo, Buttrio and Rocca Bernarda. We are in the north-east of Italy in the province of Udine, in the heart of the prestigious ‘Friuli Colli Orientali’ DOC, in the famous locality of Rosazzo where the winery is located. Here, the winds that blow from the Adriatic Sea meet the Alps and create a nearly perfect microclimate.

This is a land that has always been a crossroads of European cultures and an area of great white wines where the Zamò family, for more than three generations, has been passionately pursuing ambitious and unconventional projects, with the sole objective of conveying the uniqueness of these lands and their passion for wine. Wine making is a sign of civilisation and allows one to strengthen the bond with one’s land, origins and traditions.

Embracing this production philosophy, today’s mission is to be sustainable, which is why Le Vigne di Zamò cultivates its vineyards with natural methods, using only fertilisers such as manure and humus, practising mechanical weeding and celebrating the first certified organic harvest in 2021.
