Company Description

Marchesi Alfieri is a historic winery based in the Castle of San Martino Alfieri on the hills of Piedmont between Asti and Alba. The area takes the name Terre Alfieri, where Monferrato, Langhe and Roero converge: a landscape of cultivated vineyards, hazelnut groves and agricultural lands.

Since 1616 the Castle and the Estate have been linked to the history of the Alfieri, a noble family that contributed to the unification of Italy with the Savoy, the royal family.

Since 1983, the three sisters Emanuela, Antonella and Giovanna San Martino di San Germano have been running the company and since 1999 Mario Olivero has been the Oenologist and Director.

From the Estate’s twenty-one hectares of vineyards, 130,000 bottles of structured, complex and elegant wines are produced each year, which best express the personality and character of the grapes grown in this area. Barbera is the flagship of the winery accompanied by some typical grapes of Piedmont as Nebbiolo, Grignolino and Timorasso.

Marchesi Alfieri makes also Pinot Noir, a red one and a champenois method thanks to the old history and tradition tied to this variety. The Pinot Noir was brought to Piemonte by the prime minister of agriculture Camillo Cavour and he suggested to the Marquis Carlo Alfieri planting the burgundy vine on the Estate in 1851.

The Marchesi Alfieri Estate also offers unforgettable stays among history, nature and taste with its 11 elegant rooms and guided tours of the cellars, the Orangery and the park of the Castle, ending with a tasting of the most representative wines.
