Company Description
Quadra is an Italian winery located in Franciacorta, one of Italy’s most prestigious sparkling wine regions. It was founded by Ugo Ghezzi in 2003 with the ambition of creating a contemporary winery. Today, the estate is led by his daughter Cristina, who continues the family vision with a modern and forward-looking approach.
Quadra is dedicated exclusively to the production of Metodo Classico sparkling wines, with a strong focus on precision, purity and consistency. It cultivates about 20 hectares of vineyards spread over the morainic hills, benefiting from the microclimate moderated by nearby Lake Iseo.
The process begins in the vineyard, with grapes harvested at optimal ripeness to preserve natural acidity and freshness. These vineyards are composed by Chardonnay, Pinot Bianco e Pinot Nero. Pinot Bianco plays a key role in Quadra’s identity and style. It is valued for its ability to add verticality, freshness, and subtle complexity, supporting long ageing on the lees while maintaining clarity and purity of expression. Its use reflects Quadra technical approach and commitment to crafting Franciacorta wines with strong personality, precision, and a distinctive sense of terroir.
Gentle pressing is used to extract only the highest-quality must. The first alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, resulting in base wines characterized by clarity, balance, and varietal expression.
These base wines are then carefully evaluated and blended through assemblage, a crucial phase at Quadra to define the style, structure, and identity of each cuvée. Once the blend is finalized, the wine is bottled with the addition of liqueur de tirage, composed of selected yeasts and sugar, and sealed with a crown cap.
The second fermentation occurs naturally in the bottle, creating fine and persistent effervescence. Quadra places great emphasis on extended ageing on the lees, allowing yeast autolysis to enhance complexity, texture, and aromatic depth while preserving elegance and freshness.
After ageing, bottles undergo riddling (remuage), carried out with precision to gradually move the lees into the neck of the bottle. Disgorgement follows, removing the sediment while maintaining clarity and purity. The addition of liqueur d’expedition defines the final dosage, in line with Quadra’s stylistic vision, often favoring balance, finesse and a clear expression of terroir.
The wines are then sealed with a natural cork and wire cage and allowed further bottle ageing before release. The result is a range of Franciacorta Metodo Classico wines distinguished by fine perlage, precision, elegance, and strong territorial identity, expressing Quadra’s modern and technically rigorous approach to sparkling wine production.
Quadra uses a highly artisanal approach: hand harvesting, strict cluster selection in the vineyard and further sorting in the cellar. This ensures consistent quality, even in challenging vintages. This “small-scale precision” approach to vineyard and winemaking work sets Quadra apart from mass-production wineries.
Quadra describes itself as “diversamente Franciacorta”, not simply replicating the traditional style, but interpreting the territory with its own personality, emphasizing freshness, harmony and recognizability. Many Quadra cuvées spend years ageing on the lees, enhancing complexity, depth and longevity.
Technical rigor and careful choices, from vineyard management to vinification and aging, allow the winery to maintain high-quality standards consistent with the Franciacorta DOCG appellation.
Quadra combines innovation and tradition, using advanced technology alongside meticulous vineyard work to express the purest character of Franciacorta. Sustainability, quality, and attention to detail guide every step of the production process, from the vineyard to the bottle.
Quadra represents a modern vision of Italian Metodo Classico: precise, authentic, and internationally oriented while remaining deeply rooted in its origins.
