Company Description
Tenuta Terraviva is a family-owned winery located in Tortoreto, in the Colline Teramane area of Abruzzo, with vineyards overlooking the Adriatic Sea and protected by the Gran Sasso mountain range. The estate’s history began in the late 1970s, when Gabriele Marano purchased the first vineyard plots. Today the winery covers 30 hectares, of which 21 hectares are planted with vines, mainly native varieties such as Trebbiano, Pecorino, Passerina and Montepulciano.
The vineyards are situated between 100 and 220 meters above sea level on clay and mineral-rich soils, benefiting from a microclimate influenced by constant sea breezes. The combination of sea proximity, mountain protection and mineral soils contributes to the distinctive character of the wines.
Since 1996 the estate has been certified organic, and in 2020 it began transitioning toward biodynamic agriculture, with the goal of working in harmony with nature and preserving the natural balance of the ecosystem.
A key principle of the winery is the exclusive use of estate-grown grapes: no grapes or wine are purchased from external sources. Each vineyard parcel is vinified separately in order to express the specific characteristics of the terroir.
Harvesting is carried out by hand, with grapes selected and placed in small crates to ensure immediate processing in the winery located at the center of the estate. In the cellar, spontaneous fermentations with indigenous yeasts, minimal intervention and a very limited use of sulphites allow the wines to express the authentic identity of the territory.
