Company Description

Tenute Toscane is the company that represents a family-run business located in Tuscany.

Bruna Baroncini says that “dealing with Sangiovese is like dealing with a Man. He could also be a Woman, why not, but I imagine him as a Man. In Morellino he is a boy, impetuous, a little immature, curious. In Montepulciano he is an adolescent, prancing like a wild horse, with all the possibilities in the world before him. In Chianti he is adulthood, when he combines balance and strength, smoothness and persistence. In Brunello he is Sangiovese at its full maturity, at once thunderous and

firm, wise and self-confident, still with all the power of his best years. And then he has the potential for a very long life.”

This is why for Bruna Baroncini, a lifetime in the world of wine, Sangiovese was the ideal traveling companion. After all, for her family, already credited as wine producers in the Liber Aetatum of 1489, the historical archives of San Gimignano, the drink dear to Dionysus definitely flows through their veins. Bruna’s career began on the family estate, at Podere Torre Terza, where the family produced Vernaccia but already dreamed of Chianti Classico, the style that Bruna’s father considered Paradise Lost. Bruna’s family is a peculiar one, where

historically, it is women who tend the vineyards.

As grandmother Gina did before her, and mother Ilva, and as (perhaps) it will be for little Bianca Apollonia, daughter of Samuele Baroncini, Bruna’s grandson, who has been running the company since 2018.

Her father’s premature death in 1987 inevitably meant that Bruna had to give up her dream of becoming a doctor, but it also led her to discover her lifelong calling. Bruna knows that her father’s words were not arcane predictions but clear visions: it is precisely in Sangiovese that lies the treasure chest of wisdom her family has always pursued. In 1995, she acquired Il Faggeto, in Montepulciano, which was the first terroir where she began to experiment with the principal grape of these lands. In 1997, it was the turn of the Maremma, specifically Magliano in Toscana, with the purchase of Fattoria Querciarossa, where the challenge of interpreting Sangiovese in all its nuances was enriched and took on meaning. In 1998, it was time to reach the main stage, the ultimate

ambition: Brunello, with the acquisition of Tenuta Poggio Il Castellare. Then, in 2003, the Baroncini family completed its Sangiovese portfolio,

while realizing the vision of Bruna’s father, with the

purchase of Tenuta Casuccio Tarletti, in Castelnuovo Berardenga, on the Chianti Classico side.
