Company Description

Monte Rosa, the Giant of the Alps: In the West Lombardy pre-Alpine region of Monte Rosa, atop the moraine hill of San Quirico (500 meters above sea level), an architectural gem created by star architect Vico Magistretti dominates an historic Nebbiolo vineyard, renovated in 2000: cru SommoClivo.

The new y. 2010 winery wanted by Alessio Fornasetti at Torre San Quirico was aimed at revamping the centuries-old winemaking tradition of this land, abandoned due to phylloxera (end-19th Century).

Alessio Fornasetti has managed to go against the grain to achieve true excellence, breaking away from the beaten tracks and hasty stereotypes, sublimated by a delicate and subdued skill, where passion rhymes with tradition and innovation.

SommoClivo is the name of the Nebbiolo wine produced in Torre San Quirico, taken from a commemorative marble plaque carved in Latin and placed at the entrance of the year 1878 tower:
“… in summo clivo” translates to “… on the top of the hill”, a sound pre-requisite for quality …

Competitive edge: SommoClivo aromas and flavors are highly recognizable if compared to other Nebbiolos, such as Barolo, Barbaresco or Gattinara from the neighboring Piedmont: distinctiveness of the wine and loyalty to SommoClivo are therefore very high.

More generally, SommoClivo takes you into a fascinating balance between complexity and elegance, with aromas that belong as unique to this wine.

Production: We own 3 hectares of Nebbiolo, one of which is 25 years old, while the remaining two hectares are 7 years old. Current production potential is between 4,000 and 6,000 bottles, soon to reach 6,000–8,000.

Seasonal yields are highly unstable due to climate change, which is increasingly difficult to manage. To compensate the productivity slowdown we will have to develop new vineyards.

Price positioning: SommoClivo ranges in the premium price segment, targeting a niche clientele.

Export markets: we have a long-standing importer/distributor in Belgium, Licata Vini.
In Switzerland we are currently working with “Bel Vino di Maurizio Scorza,” a select Swiss importer/distributor active in specific Swiss regions.

We are working to develop export sales in Germany, Austria and the Southeast Asian markets.
