COMPANY OVERVIEW
La Ferraria is a family-run agricultural company based in Mortegliano, in the heart of the lower Friulian plain, south of Udine, in Friuli Venezia Giulia, northeastern Italy. Founded in 1968 by Rosa and Walter Unterholzner, originally from Foiana in South Tyrol, the company was born from the decision to settle in this fertile agricultural area between Pozzuolo del Friuli and Mortegliano and to build a long-term farming project rooted in the land. Today, La Ferraria is carried forward by the second generation, combining family heritage, agricultural knowledge and a modern entrepreneurial vision.

THE NAME AND THE LAND
The identity of La Ferraria begins with its name. ‘La Ferraria’ is the historic name of the land on which the company stands today, a place whose memory is deeply connected to rural life, agricultural work and local exchange routes. In the company’s narrative, this land was once associated with a broad shared prairie linked to the life of nearby communities. The name evokes work, strength and a long-standing relationship with the soil, values that still define the company today.

OUR TERRITORY: FRIULI VENEZIA GIULIA
This part of Friuli Venezia Giulia has a strong agricultural vocation. Mortegliano lies in a productive plain historically shaped by cultivated landscapes, orchards, vineyards and rural settlements. The region is widely known as a cultural crossroads, where Italian, Central European, Slavic and Germanic influences have met over centuries.
This layered identity gives Friuli a distinctive character: resilient, open and deeply attached to its land, yet naturally connected to wider commercial and cultural exchanges.

APPLES IN THE HISTORY OF FRIULI
Apples have a deep-rooted place in the history of Friuli Venezia Giulia, with cultivation traditions that date back many generations. For La Ferraria, working with apples is therefore not simply a product choice: it is part of a wider regional fruit-growing culture. This connection between local tradition and contemporary interpretation is one of the foundations of the company’s identity.

FROM FARMING TRADITION TO CONTEMPORARY PRODUCTS
From the original cultivation of apples and vegetables begun by the Unterholzner family in the 1960s, the estate has evolved into a landscape of orchards, vineyards and contemporary beverage development. La Ferraria presents itself not only as a producer, but as an interpreter of a place where farming tradition and innovation coexist with elegance, authenticity and direct control of the agricultural supply chain.

PRODUCT PORTFOLIO
La Ferraria has developed a portfolio that expresses two complementary souls: a premium line and a natural line. Together, they reflect the company’s ability to combine origin, fruit quality and a clear market identity.

Premium line – Alibis: a sparkling apple-based beverage crafted from organic apples and developed with a sparkling wine-making approach, featuring natural double fermentation, fine perlage and a refined aromatic profile.

Premium line – Prosecco DOC Millesimato Brut: an elegant sparkling expression that reinforces the company’s link with Italian sparkling culture.

Natural line – Veramela: a 100% organic apple extract/juice focused on purity, freshness and fruit authenticity.

Natural line – Ocyder: an organic cider that offers a fresher, more immediate and contemporary interpretation of the apple.
